BRIGHT NET ATHLETE OF THE WEEK  JUNE 10, 2008

This week's Bright Net 'athlete of the week' is Patrick Henry senior baseball player, Zach Botjer.

Zach led the Patrioits to the state championship in baseball.   He pitched a 4-hitter in beating Ft. Loramie in the state semi-final game.   Then in the championship, Zach ripped two hits, including the game winner over Berlin Hiland.    This performance led Patrick Henry to their first state baseball title.

 BRIGHT NET ATHLETE OF THE WEEK  JUNE 3, 2008

This week's Bright Net 'athlete of the week' is Archbold track performer, Garrett Waidelich.

Garrett led the BlueStreaks to state in two different events.   He anchored Archbold's regional champion 4 by 100 relay.   And he was also part of the Streak's 4 by 200 relay that is state-bound.

 BRIGHT NET ATHLETE OF THE WEEK  MAY 27, 2008

This week's Bright Net 'athlete of the week' is Patrick Henry senior baseball player, Kyle Reese.

Kyle led the Patriots to a pair of district wins to advance to the regional tournament.  He was the winning pitcher in a victory over Edgerton, and collected two hits in the game.   Kyle had three more hits in the district final win over Edon.

This week's Bright Net 'athlete of the week' is Wauseon senior track performer, Jessica Jones.

Jessica led the Wauseon Indians to the NWOAL title in girls track.  She won her fourth straight title in the 400 meters; and she was part of three other winning relays.   Jessica ran the anchor leg on all three of those first place relays.

 BRIGHT NET ATHLETE OF THE WEEK  MAY 13, 2008

This week's Bright Net 'athlete of the week' is Napoleon senior track performer, Ryan Fleck.

Ryan led the Wildcats to a third place finish at the Palmer Relays.   He jumped 6'8 to lead the high jump relay; and long jumped 21' 2".   But at the Oak Harbor Invitational he did even better.   Ryan set a new meet record, winning the high jump at 6' 9; and he broke the school record in the long jump, going 22' 2".

 BRIGHT NET ATHLETE OF THE WEEK  MAY  6, 2008

This week's Bright Net 'athlete of the week' is Liberty Center senior track performer, Chad McClory.

Chad led the Tigers to a runnerup finish in the Archbold Relays.  He was part of the first place 4 by 400 relay; and also anchored the weightmen's relay.   Chad also had the top discus throw in the competition.   Earlier in the week, Chad had scored two first place finishes in a meet with Delta and Toledo Christian.

This week's Bright Net 'athlete of the week' is Patrick Henry freshman softball player and track performer, Tori Meyer.

Tori took two first place finishes in the Patriots meet with Liberty Center.   She also won the Pole Vault at the Diller Invitational; and helped the Lady Patriots to a second place team finish.    Tori also stepped onto the softball diamond, and threw a one-hitter to help beat Liberty Benton.

This week's Bright Net 'athlete of the week' is Napoleon senior track performer, Connor Pain.

Connor led the Wildcats sprinters last week, winning two individual events in victories over Patrick Henry and Delta.   He also captured individual titles in the 100 and 200 meters, and was part of Napoleon's winning 4 by 100 relay team.

This week's Bright Net 'athlete of the week' is Napoleon sophomore track performer Kendal Homan.  

Kendal led the Lady Cats with two first place finishes in a meet with Ottawa Glandorf.  Then at the Bobcat Relays, Kendal captured first place in the 100 meters; and she was on two winning relays, the shuttle hurdle and long jump.

Mike opened the season by pitching a no-hitter to beat Wauseon, and then knocked-in a run with a hit against Anthony Wayne in a loss.

Sean led the Tigers to a victory in boys track over Pettisville by winning two sprint events.   And he was part of two winning relays.   That gave Sean four first places in the four events he ran.

This week's Bright Net 'athlete of the week' is Archbold senior basketball player, Trey Smith.

Trey helped the BlueStreaks rally from behind for a regional win over Bucyrus Wynford by scoring 13 points.    He scored 11 more in the regional final, when Archbold fell to Ottawa Glandorf.

This week's Bright Net 'athlete of the week' is Archbold senior basketball player, Justin Rupp.

Justin helped anchor the BlueStreak's defense in district wins over Ottawa Hills and Genoa.   He also scored 11 points in each game; sending Archbold to the regional tournament.

This week's Bright Net 'athlete of the week' is Napoleon senior bowler, Kelsey Zumfelde.

Kelsey led the Lady Cat bowlers to a runnerup finish in the district tournament, earning them a trip to the state championships.   Kelsey rolled a 211 game, as part of a 548 series that led the Napoleon squad.

This week's Bright Net 'athlete of the week' is Patrick Henry senior basketball player, Kyle Tieje.  

Kyle led the Patriots to a pair of victories leading into the tournament.  He scored 33 points and pulled down 14 rebounds in a win over Swanton.  And he had 24 points in a victory over Van Buren- Patrick Henry's 8th straight.

This week's Bright Net 'athlete of the week' is Napoleon senior wrestler, Lee Drummond.

Lee led the Wildcats to their third straight GBC wrestling title.   He went 5-0 in his matches at the 152-pound weight class.   And Lee pinned every opponent on the way to his individual title.

This week's Bright Net 'athlete of the week' is Patrick Henry freshman gymnast, Tori Meyer.

Tori led the Lady Patriots to a victory over Notre Dame of Toledo in a dual meet last week.   Tori scored first place finishes in the vault, uneven bars, and the floor exercise; while piling-up enough points for the all-around title.

BRIGHT NET ATHLETE OF THE WEEK  JANUARY 29, 2008

This week's Bright Net 'athlete of the week' is Napoleon sophomore swimmer, Samantha Zuch.

Samantha led the Lady Cat swim team to a runnerup finish in the NWOAC swimming championships over the weekend.   She won the 200 and 500 freestyle events, and captured both in record-breaking time.  Samantha was also part of a second place relay.

This week's Bright Net 'athlete of the week' is Napoleon sophomore gymnast, Kendall Homan.  

Kendall led the Lady Cats to a first place finish and title at the Patrick Henry Gymnastics Invitational.  She placed first in the all-around competition by winning the Vault, Floor exercise, and Unveven Bars.

This week's Bright Net 'athlete of the week' is Napoleon senior wrestler, Robert Sanchez.

Robert took first place in the Perrysburg Wrestling Invitational last weekend, winning the 285-lb division.   Robert pinned all five of his opponents on the way to the title.  That puts his record at 21-2 for the season.

This week's Bright Net 'athlete of the week' is Patrick Henry senior wrestler, Anthony Almanza.

Anthony led the Patriots to the team title in the Woodmore Classic last week.   He won the 130-lb division by pinning 4 opponents in his 6 matches.  Anthony was named the outstanding wrestler of the entire tournament, taking his record this season to 20-0.

This week's Bright Net 'athlete of the week' is Liberty Center senior wrestler, Chad McClory.

Chad led the Tigers to a 4th place finish at the Marion Harding tournament last weekend.   He took first place in the 189-lb. division; and pinned his opponent in the championship match.   He was also named the outstanding wrestler of the tournament.

Derek helped lead the Wildcats to the title in the Sylvania Southview tourney this past weekend.   In the 145-pound division, Derek went undefeated to take the title.   He's off to a 9-0 start this season.

This week's Bright Net 'athlete of the week' is Patrick Henry senior football player, Zach Botjer.

Zach led the Patriots to a regional championship, with contributions on both sides of the ball in a Friday night win over Liberty Benton.   Botjer caught 4 passes for 113 yards; and he also recovered a fumble on the last play of the first half, returning it for a touchdown.

This week's Bright Net 'athlete of the week' is Napoleon sophomore soccer player, Cole Gerken.

Cole helped lead the Wildcats to the first ever state final-four appearance in soccer.  Gerken tallied 3 goals and 3 assists in a victory over Genoa.  And then provided an assist on one of Napoleon's two goals to beat powerhouse Bay Village 2 to 1.

 This week's Bright Net 'athlete of the week' is Napoleon sophomore cross country runner, Rachel Huddle.

Rachel ran one of the top 5 times in school history at the division 2 regional meet at Tiffin, taking 2nd place in the girls division.   That qualified Rachel to run in the state championships in Columbus.

This week's Bright Net 'athlete of the week' is Napoleon senior volleyball player, Brooke Zachrich.   

Brooke helped the Lady Cats to three straight wins last week.   She had 28 assists as setter in a victory over Lima Sr.   Brooke followed that up with 35 assists in a win over a tough Evergreen team.   And wrapped up the week by setting-up 28 assists in the Cats win over Sandusky.

This week's Bright Net 'athlete of the week' is Napoleon freshman girls tennis player, McKenzie Eickoff.

McKenzie helped the Lady Cats win the GBC team title last weekend, when she took first place at 2nd singles.   En route to the victory, McKenzie knocked-off the #1 and #2 seeded players.   Earlier in the week, she picked-up singles wins against Archbold, Defiance and Lima Bath to help Napoleon set the record for most dual victories in a season.

BRIGHT NET ATHLETE OF THE WEEK  SEPTEMBER 25, 2007

This week's Bright Net 'athlete of the week' is Wauseon senior golfer, Tyler Uphaus.

Tyler led the Indians to the NWOAL golf tournament title, shooting a 76.   That tied him for medalist honors with two other golfers.   And it earned him a third consecutive individual title in the conference.   Earlier in the week, Tyler shot a school record score of 32, in helping Wauseon beat Delta.

This week's Bright Net 'athlete of the week' is Patrick Henry sophomore football player, Aaron George.

Aaron led the Patriots to a big league win over Liberty Center, with a tremendous defensive game.  Aaron recorded 15 tackles and 4 sacks in the victory, handing Liberty Center their first loss of the year.

Kaitlyn led the Lady Tigers to 4 straight wins last week, to keep their record unbeaten for the year.  She had games of 22, 26, 20 and 10 kills in victories over Hilltop, Wauseon, North Central, and Hicksville.  Kaitlyn also served-up 6 ace serves in the Hilltop match.

This week's Bright Net 'athlete of the week' is Patrick Henry senior football player, Tom Busch.

Tom led the Patriots to a comeback win in the first week of the season.   He threw for 248 yards and three touchdowns; and then added 72 yards in rushing.   The Patriots beat Leipsic 39 to 20.

This week's Bright Net 'athlete of the week' is Napoleon girls tennis player, Abby Panning.  Abby led the Lady Cats to three straight victories to open the season.  She and her teamate defeated Marion Harding in doubles.  Abby earned a singles win vs Fostoria.  And she teamed up with a Lady Cat player to win first doubles in the Napoleon Invitational.

This week's Bright Net 'athlete of the week' is Napoleon junior track performer, Marlea Rolander.

Marlea ran the 100 hurdles in the state track prelims, seeded with the 8th fastest time from the regional.   She placed 2nd in her heat, earning a spot in the finals on Saturday.    Then in the finals of the state 100 hurdles, Marlea placed 6th; making it two Lady Cat performers to score in that event at state.
